My Fairy Homes

These are just a few of the Fairy Homes that I have created.

Fairies are very particular about the homes that they inhabit. Some fairies dwell in the woods, or on the beaches, others prefer gardens or fields of wild flowers and then there are those very special fairies that love to dwell among small children. These special fairies are the tiniest of them all, each one so very beautiful with long flowing hair and twinkly eyes. They are dressed in the finest spun silk mixed with the magic of sparkling fairy dust.

It's said if you place a fairy dwelling inside your home you will soon find evidence that one of these special fairies has made it their home.

You must believe in Fairies
before one will venture into your home.

Any child would be delighted to have a cake topped with a fairy dwelling. A special keepsake forever. These little fairy houses will definitely be a wonderful home for some of those very special fairies.

There are fairies that love the sound of the ocean and collect seashells to surround their homes. This little Fairy house is located on a beautiful beach with white sands. Notice all the seashells that have been collected.

Here is a perfect home for a forest dwelling fairy. They love the coziness of the forest, the sweet little birds singing in the trees and the sound of a babbling brook as it lazily runs through.

There are times that I would love nothing better than to be taken away
and live among the fairies in their wonderful world.

Fairy homes come in all shapes and
sizes. Picking one out is a lot of fun,
but having one in your home is
magical.

Maureen Carlson- Polymer Clay Artist

The magical creations of Maureen Carlson
ARTIST: Maureen Carlson has been creating mixed-media figures in clay and cloth since the 1970's, with her primary medium being polymer clay. From 1979 to 1991 she sold her clay characters, dolls and puppets at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and other Twin Cities area venues. Recently, after many years of creating artwork whose primary purpose was instructional, she has begun once again making original artwork to sell at shows and through teaching venues. At the July 2010 Owatonna Art Festival she received an Award of Merit.
TELEVISION PERSONALITY: She has appeared on the Carol Duvall Show on HGTV as well as on Aleene’s Creative Living Television Show.

Ring Bearers Pillows

Ages ago, when I was a mere teen, my husband bought me a sewing machine. I dabbled about, making little outfits for my children, Halloween costumes, kitchen curtains etc, but never really took that much interest in it. It was probably because his mom was such a fantastic seamstress and she was sewing up a storm for the family anyway. That talented woman even made a wedding dress for her niece which was as beautiful as any wedding gown you'd see in a Bridal Magazine.



The other day, I was sitting in my sunroom, thinking that I needed some pillows for the settee in there, but when I went to the store and saw the price of them I was stunned. When did pillows become so expensive??? Then I thought of Etsy ~ how much were pillows there? That's when I saw some gorgeous ring bearer pillows. OKAY ~ now I'm on a completely different path.

Then I thought of my sewing and wondered if I would even remember how to sew. Well, let me tell you, it's like falling off a bike and getting back on again. Amazingly, I remembered.

Let me regress a bit. In order to do this, I would need a sewing machine. But, I remember that sewing machines cost an arm and a leg and I needed to keep my arms and legs. (LOL)

I rode over to Hancock Fabrics and was I ever pleasantly surprised. I walked out with a beautiful machine for less than a hundred dollars. Armed with the machine and the goodies to make the pillows, I gleefully went home and started work on the project. I wanted to add my polymer clay creations to make them a little different and I do believe I succeeded in doing so.

Scrimshaw and Polymer Clay

I find the art of Scrimshaw amazing!

Scrimshaw is the name given to handiwork created by whalers made from the byproducts of harvesting marine mammals. It is most commonly made out of the bones and teeth of sperm whales, the baleen of other whales, and the tusks of walruses. It takes the form of elaborate engravings in the form of pictures and lettering on the surface of the bone or tooth, with the engraving highlighted using a pigment, or, less often, small sculptures made from the same material. However the latter really fall into the categories of ivory carving, for all carved teeth and tusks, or bone carving. The making of scrimshaw began on whaling ships between 1745 to 1759 on the Pacific Ocean, and survived until the ban on commercial whaling. The practice survives as a hobby and as a trade for commercial artisans

How to create an Ivory tusk

She was introduced to a faux ivory technique in a Tory Hughes workshop a long time ago. She modified the technique somewhat. This technique takes advantage of the properties of translucent polymer clay, mimicking the striations seen in bone or ivory. Faux Wood

Angela made this pincushion by covering a recycled tin can base with polymer clay. The faux zebrawood was inspired by Carol Blackburn's wood lesson. The matching button was created using a button mold made from Amazing Mold Putty. She used cross stitch fabric for the cushion portion.

Using texture sheets, Betty Jo made this mixed media brooch. She mixed Kato blue and silver polymer clay to get the pretty blue color, stamped it, gathered it up and decorated it with small silver and lapis beads around a rhinestone component from a vintage earring.
